Berwyn Rowlands

Festival Director Iris Prize

Berwyn Rowlands is a Welsh Internationalist with 38 years’ experience in film and events, and a significant track record of turning artistic and strategic vision into reality. At age 31, Berwyn was appointed Chief Executive of Sgrîn Cymru Wales in 1997, and established Ffresh, the Student Moving Image Festival of Wales, the Wales Screen Commission, and the National Screen and Sound Archive of Wales. He was shortlisted in the 2021 UK National Lottery Awards’ arts category and received the St David Award for Culture by the First Minister for Wales in 2022 for his outstanding work with the Iris Prize, which he established in 2006.

The Iris Prize LGBT+ Film Festival is BAFTA qualifying, has 25 partners in 20 countries, and at £30,000, it is the world’s largest LGBT+ short film prize, presented annually in Cardiff. Berwyn is a regular on TV and radio talking about film / media and gay rights .
