Synopsis

Fierce trans queen Shin cut ties with her family and hometown, and is now one of the best waackers, a form of voguing, in the big city. If she wins the dance battle final, she could get her gender affirming surgery. After receiving news of her father’s passing, she learns that he left her money in his will on the condition that she performs the Drum Dance ritual at his memorial. With no other options, a defiant and confident Shin goes back to the village she left behind for a final showdown.

Director Byun's short film God's Daughter Dances, also with Hae-jun in the lead role, won Oslo/Fusion's audience award for best short film in 2021.
